I am the proverbial "accidental" programmer. I have found that I really like Perl and programming so I am pursuing that route now. I am the Debian systems administrator and junior Perl programmer for a company called Inspire.

Programming Perl

[ #32578 ]

The last one came out in 2000, 7 years ago. I wonder if there are ephemeral thoughts in putting a new one out? Or if there are "others" that replace the need for it?

I cannot see Larry W. working on it since I am pretty sure that he is tied up with Perl6.

Just musing about it.

  • While I'm not sure that 5.8 would justify it, 5.10 definitely would. It has some fantastic features that many people aren't going to know about. I'd love to see a 'Learn Perl 5.10' Web page with a good summary. I suppose there is one out there, somewhere :)

  • I welcome anyone who wants to put together such a thing and could even find (modest) funding for the project.

    • Well, since I'm already working on the regular expression documentation, I guess I could contribute something too.
