Origami camel, at last!

[ #32858 ]

At last I received Origami Sculptures by John Montroll, containing a diagram for a beautiful camel (it contains both the double-humped bactrian camel and the single-hump dromedary). Well, my camel is not so beautiful, but here it is!

(According to this, it seems that I have to state that the use of the Camel in association with Perl is trademark of O'Reilly, and that I have to link back to perl.com. If you think that I'd so something more please let me know, I might have misunderstood the terms linked above for non-commercial usage).

  • I am not a trademark lawyer, and I do not speak in any official capacity, but I can't see how an origami camel could be confusing and could possibly affect the Perl camel trademark.

    • I vaguely remembered that someone had probably gone well beyond me about this, and I finally remembered that it was Erudil [perlmonks.org] on Perl Monks [perlmonks.org]. In particular, this wonderful post of his [perlmonks.org] includes the following notice (bold added by me):

The use of the llama image in association with Perl is a trademark of O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. Used with permission.

So, I was wondering if I had to actually ask for permission to put such an "associating Perl and a Camel" post here, or if it sufficed to include the link to

  • Well done! Interesting though -- I've had Montroll's original Origami For The Enthusiast for 15 years or so, and one of my favorites is a camel that is very different from yours. Picture here [smashing.org].
    • It seems that Montroll is fond of camels - I also have a dromedary in my book! I'll fold it during the next week and I'll post a photo as well.
