Test Automation Tips 2008-05-26 16:03 gabor

Submitted by gabor on 2008.05.26 16:03
For some time I thought that the Perl-Tips sent out by Perl Training Australia is a neat idea. To follow my tradition of taking lots of good ideas from the Australians I thought I'd like to have one too.

Of course it did not make much sense to create another Perl tips list but now, following the advice of brian d foy, finally the puzzle is complete.

So I setup a newsletter to send out tips regarding Test Automation.

It will include tips on how to write tests in Perl but also stuff other languages do.

For more information you can go to the Test Automation Tips page or to the blog entry I wrote about it or you can skip that too and go directly to the subscrption page as I am going to send out the first message soon.

For the first time in the USA, I am going to teach a condensed version of my Test automation using Perl course. It will take place along the other master classes on June 19-20, 2008, the two days right after YAPC::NA.

Thanks to brian d foy you can go and already register to the class.

It seems the communication between the perl porters and CPAN module authors on one side and the distributors of these packages on the other is, well, lacking.
To slightly improve the situation I talked a bit with the Perl packagers of Debian and Fedora that resulted in a wish list from their part. I have posted it on the Perl 5 wiki under CPAN packaging

I also started to create a list of the other perl and CPAN distributors so it will be easier to ask them as well.

I need your help to create a comprehensive list of these, so if you know who is responsible for the native perl and/or CPAN packages in your favorite operating system, please post it under Distributions

I am glad to announce that during the 3 days preceding the QA Hackathon/Workshop I am going to teach my QA Automation using Perl course in Oslo, Norway.

The course will take place in the offices of Linpro. This is a hands-on course. Computer lab is provided by Linpro.

Part of the income will go back to the Oslo Perl Mongers to help finance the Workshop.

For more information please contact me directly at gabor@pti.co.il .

  What's new in Perl 5.10 - 4 micro articles 2007-12-24 16:31 gabor

In preparation to my talk on the Israeli Perl Workshop next week I have written 4 micro articles about some of the new features in Perl 5.10

While trying to scratch a recent itch I have setup the Perl Community AdServer. It allows any web site owner to easily add a few advertisements to his site to promote the Perl related events, the Perl Mongers and various Perl sites.

The server provides the ads based on the country of the visitor. So we can easily advertise the French Perl workshop to visitors from France, the London Perl Workshop to visitors from Great Britain and the Israeli Perl Workshop to visitors from Israel.

I think it would be great if many people would add these ads to their respective web sites.

See the AdServer for instructions on how to add it to your site.

New Year's Eve Workshop and Hackathon 2007-10-05 10:12 gabor

As announced earlier there is going to be a Perl Workshop in Israel on 31 December 2007.

I can announce now that after the workshop is over we plan to celebrate the new year in a pub somwhere in Tel Aviv, just to warm us up for the Hackathon between 1-5 January, 2008.

It would be really cool to see some of the overseas Perl Hackers on these events.

The weather can be warmish those days, flight tickets are relatively cheap and beer is served cold in the pubs of Tel Aviv.

I am glad to announce that after another long period of neglecting the forum I had enough tuits to add a tagging system to it. So from now on, registered users of CPAN::Forum can add personal tags to every module (or actually distribution).

You can see the tags I already added.
All three of them.

Later I add more features (such as seeing the tags of others and seeing them in a cloud) and I'll also provide access to the data so that it can be used to enhance search engines.

You are most welcome to register on the site and start adding tags to your favorite modules or just complain bitterly about the bugs and missing features here
