Just in case you like to know, I'm currently full-time father of 2 kids, half-time Perl hacker, sort-of DJ, bicyclist, no longer dreadlocked and 32 years old

I'm also head of Vienna.pm [pm.org], maintainer of the CPANTS [perl.org] project, member of the TPF Grants Commitee [perl.org] and the YAPC Europe Foundation [yapceurope.org].

I've got stuff on CPAN [cpan.org], held various talks [domm.plix.at] and organised YAPC::Europe 2007 in Vienna [yapceurope.org].

WoC TODO Management System

As you probably know, Vienna.pm decided to fund various Perl activities in the Winter of Code. One item on our list is to fund a Management System for TODO test bounties.

We got several interesting submissions, but we had to choose one...

The proposal from Matt S Trout / Shadowcat convinced us. The technical part looks very promising (and we're honoured by a core Catalyst developer coding an app for us), but the social aspects of his proposal is what set it apart from the rest:

Shadowcat would like to defer the bounty to fund additional Catalyst or DBIC related WoC projects. This means we get twice the value for our (your!) money. Additionally, they want to put the app in the Reaction repository under a perl license to serve as an example of Reaction development. Which makes this effort even better, because good, real-live example apps are very valuable when learning a new technology.

Matt plans to implement the system over Christmas, so if everything works out as planned we can start with the TODO test bounties in Jannuary.

  • This may be a stupid question, but what is "Reaction" in this context? I tried googling "Reaction repository" and "reaction perl" but none of the links looked really relevant.

    Googling "reaction catalyst" was even worse, of course.

    • Yes, without any documents about it on the web, it [0beta.co.uk] is impossible to find.

    • Oh, sorry, the page on our wiki [useperl.at] has a link to the Reaction [cpan.org] CPAN Placeholder which I forgot to include on use.perl...

      • The Reaction on CPAN, is very very very very different from the Reaction in the repo. The CPAN upload was just a placeholder for the name, and should probably be ignored. The version in the repo [0beta.co.uk] is probably what you should be linking too.
