Leon Brocard (aka acme) is an orange-loving Perl eurohacker with many varied contributions to the Perl community, including the GraphViz module on the CPAN. YAPC::Europe was all his fault. He is still looking for a Perl Monger group he can start which begins with the letter 'D'.

Second Life

[ #30277 ]
My sister told me that I should make my millions in Second Life. The Mac client is a bit crap and it all looks really bad. Where is everyone? I was there for a "big celebration" and all I could find was three or four people dancing. There's only so long I can teleport places and wander around seeing nobody and reading notices. Basically, I utterly fail to see the point of Second Life. What did I miss?

  • Second Life is different things to different people.

For some, it's a graphical chat room; for others, a place to make clothing out of textures or buildings out of geometrical primitives and sell them; and lots more. I suppose it depends what you want to do.

I imagine that if you want to make money, you'd need to get into the real estate business (though it's probably hard to get a foothold there). Creating and selling content is probably next.

I've met some nice people there, but I don't spend hours on end in
