Just a quick reminder, the YAPC::NA 2009 Call for Venue will be closing in less than a month. If you plan on trying to host YAPC::NA 2009 and you haven't started on your bid, you'd better get to it! The deadline for submissions this year is June 1st (as we would like to announce the 2009 venue at this year's YAPC::NA). You can get all of the details and see the Call for Venue posting on The Perl Foundation's blog.

YAPC::NA 2008 Registration Open

Journal written by jmcada (5846) and posted by jmcada on 2008.04.16 22:28   Printer-friendly
With exactly two months remaining until YAPC::NA 2008, we are officially opening the payment system for registration to the conference. From now through the end of April, an early-bird price of $85 USD is available for attendees. After that, the registration cost goes up to $100 USD, so if you are looking to save some money on registration, book now! Of course, we are also making the full-price registration available for those who are feeling generous.

Some things to note:

If you are a speaker, DO NOT pay for the conference unless you really really want to. We will be passing out a coupon code sometime in the next few weeks so that you can properly register.

Also, if you are wanting to book on-campus accommodations you'll have to wait a week or so to reserve those; however, you can register and pay for the conference now to take advantage of early bird pricing. The housing registration system will be available very soon. The maintainers of ACT (the system we use to manage the conference) are working hard to create a more robust purchasing component of ACT that will make booking housing easier this year. A lot of this work will be done at next week's ACT hack-a-thon. Please join all of the ACT Hackers in making ACT an even better system for managing YAPC's around the world.

And finally, be sure to get the word out. We want to make this one of the best YAPC::NA's to date and to do that we need attendees! Tell your friends. Tell your boss. Tell your local PM group or LUG. YAPC::NA 2008 is almost here!

Call for Venue for YAPC::Europe 2009

Journal written by domm (4030) and posted by grinder on 2008.03.30 8:56   Printer-friendly
While we are all looking forward to YAPC::Europe 2008 in Copenhagen, it's time for the YAPC::Europe Venue Committee to consider suitable hosts for the 2009 conference. Any dedicated group interested in hosting YAPC::Europe::2009 should send a brief statement of intent to venue@yapceurope.org as soon as possible. For this first statement of intent a few lines like "City.pm is interested in hosting YAPC::Europe 2009" will be enough.

A full and complete application should then be sent to the same address prior to the deadline for applications, which is June 30, 2008. The YAPC::Europe Venue Committee will inform applicants by July 31, 2008 if their proposal was chosen. The public announcement of the location for the 2009 conference will be announced during the 2008 conference in Copenhagen.

For more information about the requirements for hosting a conference, you may want to refer to the YAPC organiser's documentation (administered by TPF) on Google code, or look at the examples of previous European conferences.

Please direct any questions to venue@yapceurope.org, and a member of the committee will endeavour to respond as soon as possible.

Looking forward to your submissions,
  Thomas Klausner

YAPC::NA 2009 Call for Venue

Welcome, once again, to the Yet Another Perl Conference, North America Call For Venue! The 2009 YAPC::NA marks the 10th anniversary for YAPC. Wow, 10 years of YAPC! This year we've decided to try something a little different. After some discussion and feedback, we've decided to take an approach similar to YAPC::EU. We're putting out the request for bids now, with a June 1 deadline. This gives the Conferences Committee time to review the bids and make a decision to be announced at this year's YAPC::NA in Chicago.

OSDC.tw 2008 calls for paper

hcchien writes "Most open source developers often get lots of new ideas. And they implement them all the time. The open source developers share their code to others, and get more feedback from the end users and other developers.

Internet is a good way to share their ideas and code. If you want to get more feedback directly or share more experiences to others. And you want to get more developers to hack together. It's a good time to submit your paper and proposal to OSDC.tw 2008.

The subject of OSDC.tw 2008 would be the "Innovation and Implementation". You can share with others your ideas and implementation. The deadline of the CFP is 2008/2/15, and the conference schedule will be releaded after the end of call for paper. The date of OSDC.tw 2008 would be the mid of April 2008. We will announce the date after the venue is confirmed.

For submitting the papers, you should include subject, extract. And tell us how long is your talk. It could be a tutorial (180 mins) or session (60 mins), you can either submit a lightening talk.

Please attach the speaker introduction when you submit the paper. And send it to hcchien@osdc.tw"

Copenhagen, Denmark to host YAPC::Europe 2008

barbie writes "The YAPC::Europe Foundation is pleased to announce that Copenhagen, Denmark has been chosen as the site for YAPC::Europe 2008, the ninth European YAPC.

Copenhagen faced stiff competition from Braga, Portugal, which hosted a memorable YAPC::Europe in 2005. This year also marked the first submission from a group unaffiliated with Perlmongers: the Informatics department of Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, United Kingdom. We hope that both these groups will give us the opportunity to consider their proposals again in the future.

We are confident that Copenhagen.pm's experienced team — which was responsible for several Nordic Perl Workshops — will put together a wonderful conference. "

While that's great (really!), that also means you have to be fast to have your
seat committed for you! We are limited to 320 seats for the dinner so we have
to apply our "first come first serve" principle for the dinner. Seats will be
committed in order of incoming payments, so be sure the grab your seat and buy
your ticket in case you haven't done so! For those who have paid already (or
have sponsor tickets), consider your seat reserved for you.
