    cwest writes "The first-ever Pittsburgh Perl Workshop is coming September 23rd, and it's going to be fantastic. We have two excellent sets of sessions scheduled, an awesome after-event venue, and a bunch of surprises. It is nearly sold out, so please register now ($40 for general admission, $20 for students) to reserve your spot. We still need more volunteers to help make this a success. If you're interested, please sign up for the available positions on our wiki. We are planning to go to the festive and microbrew-licious Church Brew Works for an after-party at 7 p.m. It's very important to sign up if you want to go, so we know how many tables to reserve."

    A Perl interface to the US Postal Service Web Tool

    I've written Business-USPS-WebTools to interact with the US Postal Service's Web Tools. This isn't screen scraping; it's a real web service officially offered by the USPS. So far I've only done the Address Information services: Address Standardization, Zip Code Lookup, and City/State Lookup. I didn't use any of the XML modules or anything other yucky things. The requests and responses are very small, and the other side doesn't understand real XML anyway.

    H.Merijn Brand writes "After several succesful Dutch Perl Workshops, we will organize a Dutch Perl Workshop again in February or March 2007. (most likely). Is there anyone that would like to attend and/or give a speech there? We have no date set yet, and if you *really* would like to come, we can still try to fit it around the dates that are possible."

    This week I participated in the Test Automation Conference hosted by Google in London. They are based just by Victoria Station and have pretty shiny offices indeed with a pool table, table football and lots of little perks like fridges full of Innocent smoothies. This two-day conference really interested me as I'm really interested in large scale testing - as the tshirt we got pointed out: "because life is too short for manual testing".
