The Austrian Perl Workshop 2006 will be at Kapsch CarrierCom / Vienna on 8th and 9th of June. It is organised by Vienna.pm.

I'm pleased to announce the First Devon and Cornwall Perl Mongers Technical Meeting, on the 17th of May at The Waterfront, West Hoe, Plymouth, Devon. It should start about 7pm with Talks starting between 7:15 and 7:30.

I'll be doing a couple of Talks on a new Scheduler, and Maypole, hopefully we'll have some talks from other local perl mongers and we'll have guests from Birmingham.pm on their world tour.

Adam Kennedy has announced some major changes to the Catalyst project team. The largest one is that the project founder, Sebastian Riedel, has left the core development team. He will be working on a new framework called Woodstock.

The latest interview on Perlcast is with Jesse Vincent about the Jifty web framework that he and a group of other Perl hackers are working on. Jifty takes a stance quite opposite of the Catalyst framework. Listen in to find out why Jesse thinks that less options might be better.

Recently, I had a chance to talk to the developers behind Volity, an open source P2P gaming platform built with a lot of Perl and Java (yes, the two can play nicely together). larsh writes "The midnight (00:01 UTC) of May 1st deadline for submissions of talks to the Nordic Perl Workshop 2006 is approaching. The workshop will be held in Oslo, Norway, on the 15th and 16th of June, 2006. The main topic of this year's workshop is "Managing Complexity."

The Dallas/Fort Worth Perl Mongers are pleased to announce that brian d foy will presenting at the technical meeting on May 23rd. It will be held at nerdbooks.com, 1681 Firman Drive, Richardson, TX 75081 and will begin at 6:30 pm. brian will be presenting the chapter entitled "The Magic of Tied Variables" from his upcoming book "Mastering Perl".

A social will more than likely be held afterwards at a seperate location (to be announced).

jmcada writes "We've just released the YAPC::NA 2006 schedule on the conference website. This year there will be four rooms of talks going on for the three days of the conference. We are lucky enough to have both Larry Wall and Damian Conway giving keynote addresses. Of course, there will be a lot of Perl 6, Pugs, and Parrot talks, was well as the usual barrage of Perl 5 goodness.

Some other items of interest that aren't on the schedule include a Perl 6 hack-a-thon immediately following the conference, as well as, open classes taught by Damian Conway, brian d foy, and Randal Schwartz. You can find out more at the YAPC Chicago website.
