    Meeting Announcements: Dutch Perl Workshop publishes schedule

    markov writes "The third Dutch Perl Workshop will take place on May 17th. The progam for the day has just been released. Amongst many dutch speakers, Leopold Tötsch will inform us about the latest Parrot developments. Although the main conference language is Dutch, the meeting may still be nice to attent for visitors of SANE 2006 (Europe's version of USENIX) or the Free Software Bazaar which happen at the same day in the same building."

    News: Artistic License 2.0 public review

    Allison writes "Part of the Perl 6 RFC process in 2000 identified the need to update the Artistic License (RFCs 211 and 346). From 2000-2001, a group of interested Perl users on the perl6-licenses mailing list worked on a first draft of an updated Artistic License. In 2003, The Perl Foundation started an extensive review process with independent legal counsel and with a representative sample of companies and organizations who use and distribute Perl. We're starting the final stage now: a public review open to all.

    The goal of the license update is to preserve Larry Wall's original intent, while making the meaning clearer both to lawyers and to users. We've also added a Contributor License Agreement to document the relationship between contributors, users, and TPF. You'll find the latest drafts of the Artistic 2.0 and the Contributor License Agreement in the legal section of the TPF website.

The virtual conference track will be one day only and targeted for those remote presenters unable to attend in person. The exact day is still TBD but will be one of June 26, 27, or 28.

    CMP decided to stop publishing The Perl Journal, which they has recently moved to a completely HTML form.

    I'll certainly miss TPJ. Jon published my first two Perl articles, and the magazine certainly did a lot for the community.

The proposal submission deadline is Friday, June 2, 2006. Papers and slides are due Friday, July 21, 2006. The theme for this year's conference is 'The Accessibility of Perl,' which we hope will inspire submissions for this and related topics. If Perl has helped you or your company in enabling access, whether that is in terms of website accessibility and applications or even education and services, we'd like to hear about it. Although this is our main topic for the conference, it will not be the only one, and as such we will also be accepting talks on topics on just about any theme."

    Meeting Announcements: "Perl for Newbies" Series in the Tel Aviv Linux Club

    The Tel Aviv Linux Club (Telux) will give a series of talks intended to introduce Perl 5 to beginners soon. The series was previously given in the Haifa Linux Club but have since been corrected and expanded. Attendance is free of charge and everyone are welcome.

    On a different note, the Israeli Perl Mongers have resumed their monthly meetings, and had a very successful meeting this Monday. Again, attendance is free and everyone are invited.

    There is one week left in the open call for abstract submissions for YAPC::NA presentations. If you want to present at YAPC::NA, try to get the abstract emailed to papers at yapcchicago.org by April 10th. All that we need is a couple of paragraphs detailing what you would like to present about and whether the talk with be 20, 50, or 80 minutes.
