I used to really enjoy it as a kid. It was made locally then, in 16oz glass bottles, somewhere in the North Carolina area. It was stronger then, sweeter, and more tart.
Oh well, nothing ever stays the same, does it?

If you are in North Carolina, you are in luck, because you are close (or at least closer than I) to the West Jefferson Dr Pepper bottling plant, one of the few producers of real cane sugar Mountain Dew and other sodas [wikipedia.org]. If you can pick up a genuine WJMD (in glass, I believe), maybe you can recapture some of that original taste.
And ship me one. :)
Soft drinks don't use cane sugar anymore because the U.S. government is helpfully "protecting" the sugar industry [google.com]. I don't know about Belgium, Poland, or the U
