Hi Holly. I'm so glad that you enjoyed OSCON and that it encouraged you to start sharing your Perl experiences with us. Because that's precisely what makes the Perl community so special.
In addition to use.perl, which is a superb source of news and a great way of exploring the social aspects of the Perl community, may I also recommend taking a look at PerlMonks [perlmonks.org]. It complements use.perl beautifully, being an excellent place to learn more about the *technical* aspects of Perl.
Meanwhile, welcome to the mad^H^H^Hfunhouse!

Disclaimer: I work at the reg*.{[hc],sym} like a novice alchemist:
I pour the blue liquid on the red liquid. If it doesn't blow up on my
face, I proceed to turn up the flame under the blue liquid, and so on.
I have very little idea of what I am really doing, I just like the
