    You guys are really patient with someone asking some fairly basic questions. You could easily have palmed him off to a FAQ or tutorial somewhere. Nice work.

    I've always liked that the Perl community is very accessible. There's no feeling of some steep hierarchy, or much of an exclusive club, so long as you're polite and at least make an effort to understand things.

      Part of the reason for that, of course, is that there's still precious little in the way of (up-to-date, informative) FAQs and tutorials. Moritz++' Perl 5 to 6 [perlgeek.de] tutorial being the excellent exception.

      In fact, we're in a bit of an in-between situation. So much of Perl 6 is already implemented and usable in Rakudo, but the knowhow hasn't really seeped outside of the inner circle of active #perl6 locals yet. Add to this that some things are still in flux. A month ago or so we still wrote =$*IN to read lines in
