The bike swapping scheme is cute, but will be difficult to implement, since arriving and departing passengers have to be separated. You'd have to make two separate streams suitable for bikes and a change over area that you can selectively lock for either stream. You'd also have to provide space for the people not able to ride bicycles.

I believe that Ryanair also deliberately avoids the skybridge, because loading from the ground (even if it's walking from the terminal building), allows them to load the plane from both front and rear, which speeds their turnaround. I notice that their planes now all carry an internal, unfolding, front staircase - i.e. expend fuel getting extra weight into the
