  • What TIOBE is measuring cannot be classified as a definitive "popularity of language". However it does provide a metric and so taking in context with other information it can be useful.

    Of course that would only be true if the metrics were measured correctly! There are some obviously flaws in the approach they use...

    • It doesn't matter if the methodology is flawed. The point really is that it's yet another sign that the rest of the world doesn't watch Tim Bunce's slide shows enough. Not when I had to listen to a co-worker at my new job say that Perl is dead and we should look at doing new development in Java. People who suspect something is true look for reinforcement of their ideas, that's why we all love Tim Bunce's slides and the rest of the world discounts them, and that's why we're all arguing that TIOBE is flawed o
