Noone in the US ever wants to talk about it as you're either called an anti-semite or you're starting an argument that will be very heated. So people stay in their foxholes.
If you're interested in tormenting yourself with more along these lines you should read Body of Lies [amazon.com] which has a rather detailed account of the USS Liberty starring an Israeli general whose name may be all too familiar.
History repeats itself always until it doesn't.
