  • Though I suspect you're kidding, there's an interesting series by Robert J. Sawyer named "The Neanderthal Parallax". Basically, in an alternate universe, homo neanderthalis survived while homo sapiens sapiens went extinct. Naturally, a gateway between their universe and ours is discovered and in book 1, a Neanderthal named Ponter is trapped over here. In a similar light to Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land", one could almost view it as a fictionalized anthropological survey of humankind. Sawyer focuses heavily on the bad in our culture, but much good in our culture is covered, too.

You even get a fascinating glimpse at religion, sexuality, and weird eating practices, to boot. The first book in the series won a Hugo and I can say that it's well-deserved.
