  • Crud. The Reddit crowds are here.

    Okay, look. I'm not trying to glorify consulting. Read out of context, that could seem to be the message, but really, I was just trying to rationalize not getting another proper job. That's why it's one sided. There are plenty of bad things to say about consulting too. Some of the Reddit readers flagged them, too:

    * Pay is irregular
    * You have to do the marketing -- and the collection work (one commenter commented that consulting, they found they didn't get to code much)
    * Takes a lot more work to get your "business" to the point where it pays as well as a regular job
    * Often long hours
    * Deadbeat clients
    * Work for a lot of startups, which tend to fold
    * Piles of odd jobs for no name companies looks terrible on a resume
    * I seem to spend an innordinate amount of time just keeping the crappy little home network running
    * It's lonely... I miss having coworkers... when I did, it felt like I was at a giant Perl Mongers meeting that wouldn't end... it was awesome
