every time CPAN.pm goes to install perl5.6.1 to update to the latest libnet.

And I seem to recall reading that recent versions of CPAN had it fixed. So try upgrading CPAN first, then libnet.

  Is this a reply to the story, or to hfb's comment? Supposedly the CPAN.pm problems are fixed, relating to hfb's comment, but I still see the problems occasionally. I think they are, as you say, fixed in post-5.6.1 CPAN.pm, though.

    That was *supposed* to be a reply to hfb, but I wasn't logged in (lost a cookie?) and had to go thru that first. Then I managed to hit the wrong link. Grr.
    
    In any case, I've yet to see the but in post 5.6.1 versions of CPAN (yet?).

      I haven't seen that bug in anything post-5.6.0, actually. But, my first action every time I install 5.6.1 is to install Bundle::CPAN, so I'm not sure if I'm using the one out of the distribution or not. (Who checks?)
      
      Wouldn't it be a good idea if this bug was in the FAQ?
