Flash isn't about usability, it's about fluff. Basically this is utter bollocks, like most things that Nielsen does.
I was actually hugely surprised a week or so ago when I ran into this [useit.com] as it is pretty spot on, but then it should be pretty obvious to any decent designer (and it seems like it's just pimping his new book).
