Seriously, though, most "space programs" are thinly veiled ballistic missile / space weapons programs. Japan's government uses it to dogde its constitutional limit on war spending.

We've got lots of stuff to work out on the ground before we'll be ready as a species to go anywhere else. Getting rid of the Chinese government would be a good start.
