  • A very well written article. But what has Python got to do with it? Yes, "Beautiful is better than ugly." but "Form follows function." and "A witty saying proves nothing." Perl has its own culture, its own community, its own egregor and its own spirit. Do we want to be Python? Do we want to be Ruby? I would like Perl to be Perl. If I wanted Perl tu be Python, I'd use Python.

      And this helps with attracting new developers to Perl exactly how? Or selling Perl to your pointy-haired boss? IMHO these two things should be the driving force ATM. The community's predominant underground attitude is cool, but Perl is not only a hobby of mine anymore, it also pays my bills and as such is a commercial tool in which I have commercial interest.

      • That's what I'm asking. How do these comparisons help? We should point out why Perl is good itself, and it has many areas in which it is. Btw, Perl is paying my bills too, and it's doing it very well.
