  • Also note that anything you are counting as a charitable contribution means you have to supply an official receipt to the donor. The tax code has changed so you need receipts for all donations, not just those over $75. See IRS publication 526 for the new rules.

    But, as Dave points out, most sponsors aren't making a donation, so they don't care. It's still a deduction for them as a marketing, recruiting, or other expense. Attendees get more value than they pay for, so they have no deduction even with a receip
