shoud we be worried that there are not many competent perl programmers for hiring? i am afraid that companies will be forced to look for replacements and this will turn into a bad circle.
as for fun part of the language, It's the main reason why i like perl. It's fun and much freedom to write prgram in perl even though english is not my 1st language. i would hate to see perl lose the fun.
i do understand the need for the changes but do we want perl to be python/ruby ?

There is no reason Perl can't also be fun. If you personally want to write fun things, that is not a problem. But if coding for a company, one of the criteria is that things are more maintanable, more standard, and yes sometimes less fun.
The changes perhaps need to be something _added_ to the wider experience of the Perl/CPAN/etc rather than remove from just perl the lan
