In Rubyspeak, a "functional" language is one that functions the same way as Ruby does, just like how a domain-specific language is one that is useful in the same domain as Ruby.

  I can smell the influence of the Java ("We standardized and then invented everything you could possibly ever want!") and the PHP ("I like to use words! Words are fun! Equestrian callipygous phylactery! That means web site!") converts.
