  • Gnat, I don't want to cast aspersions on any of those softs (knowing that some might have moved forward since my last tests) but in my experience the path to laziness would probably be to write your own. That is, until someone writes a CMS around AxKit with blogging facilities or something similar.

  • Slash is not hard to install on any Linux system I've tried. I also understand it installs well on BSDs, if you have GNU tools installed. It installs fine on Debian (Slashdot is deployed on Debian). I understand it is fine on Mandrake as well (one of our developers uses that), as well as Yellow Dog, SuSE, etc.

    As to BSD and (yikes!) Solaris problems, all it really takes is someone to make a better Makefile ... aevil threatened to do that a few times. :-)
    • I had a bit of trouble with slashd on a FreeBSD box, but that was only because of a few assumptions in the launcher script. Everything else was peachy keen on any other system I've tried.

      If you can build Apache and mod_perl [apachetoolbox.com], you can install Slash.
