  • Note that the source of this paranoia is Andrew Orlowski, who isn't exactly unbiased in his coverage of all things Google. He's been writing paranoid rants about the company for a year or two now, and adding Orkut to the mix is just an extension of that ongoing tirade.

    Not that this particular point is invalid, mind you -- these Friendster clone sites are gathering a lot of demographic data for as yet unclear purposes -- but it isn't necessarily anything to get paranoid about.

    The Register is a fun rag and all, but reporters like Mr Orlowski are so far off the deep end that they make sites like, say, Slashdot look like paragons of journalistic integrity :-) :-) :-)]
