People more intimately familiar with Parrot can probably answer this better than I can, but...
I heartily accept that "early stage" is a somewhat strange term to use for both Rakudo and Parrot, since the former is much younger than the latter. Perhaps better to say that neither is really mature yet. I know some things in Rakudo are awaiting feature additions in Parrot, which gives me as a non-Parrot expert the sense that Parrot is still under construction. Yes, like UNIX in 1975, Perl in 1993, Python in 1997, or Ruby in 2001.
The fact that 6 years is old for a video game, application framework, or lolmeme doesn't mean that it's old for everything having to do with computers.

It's in a "not completely finished yet for all of the features Rakudo 1.0 will support" stage (and it's likely more accurate to count developer time, not calendar time, on projects produced mainly by volunteers).
