  • I've been blessed most of the time by having some control over my environment in most cases. Where that situation exists I insist on not quite bleeding edge Perl but something fairly recent.

    Most of my machines where I work use 5.8.x for some function of "x" depending on when they were built and last updated.

    Then there are those pesky web hosting facilities that I deal with on a frequent basis. Some of them keep up to date, and others don't seem to know what up to date means. I've seen on at least a couple of hosting facilities Perl 4! Of course, as soon as I saw that I recommended to my clients they change providers. :-)
