Is Khan an Islamic name? (Score:1)

You know, it never for a moment occurred to me that Shere Khan was an Islamic name until now.

But, thinking back, I recall a woman I worked with some years back with a last name of Khan who was from India whose family were Islamic.

Mowgli sound to me to be more of a Hindu name, although I don't really know. Was Kipling writing about some deeper Moslem/Hindu tension here? Was the tiger symbolic of Islamic conquerors?
