  • What should we infer from this invitation for non-attending speakers to populate an entire track of the conference? Could the participation of physical speakers be so low that this is the only way to fill up the conference time?

    If that's so, what's happening? Have the JAPHly ranks dwindled to such a degree that we can't even stage a nearly free conference anymore, or is something else going on?

    • The only inference that should be made from this is that not everyone is able to travel to Chicago. We live in a global world of smart geeks with worthy things to say.

      A lot has changed since Adam Turoff and I presented Virtual Conferencing with Perl [yapc.org] at YAPC::19100. Conferences are about bringing people with a common interest together and I don't see someone living halfway around the world as a limiting factor.
