  • The problem is partially exacerbated by "eat lots of carbs, they're good" from the FDA. Americans have been getting the "all fat is bad" message as well, and have been eating a diet mostly consisting of a minimal amount of protein (can't have that fat, y'know) processed sugars, starches and craploads of salt tomake it taste like something.

    Worse, since the fat content is low, the cytokynins (think of them as method calls from the body to the brain) which tell the brain "we've eaten enough, stop feeling hungry" don't get sent until a lot more food is eaten.

    This all also tends to mess up insulin homeostatis, and results in the body storing more fat and being hungry sooner.

    A balanced amount of protein and carbohydrate, along with sufficient fat, lets your body get what it needs and use it better. I switched to a measured-ratio diet a couple years ago, and I feel and look a heck of a lot better.

    And you don't even want to think about what fat substitutes do to the body's fat transport mechanisms. Ick.
