  • shit-tastic the US mobile 'phone' service is in the US, e.g. "HEY MO FO CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW????" (which I have actually uttered due to T-Mobile asking me to stand outside in -20 weather to get better signal), not to mention that my Finns-In-Law can get a call from Finland on their mobile while I can't get a call from across town on the same carrier, leads me to believe that the ONLY thing anyone should care about in the mobile market in the US is if the carrier actually works and doesn't upsell its service
  • You mentioned Google Local. I wish to inform you of a different application that I have recently fallen in love with, Yahoo Go. It does news, stocks, weather, etc etc, like a lot of apps do. Where it truly shines is the gps support as well as the "Find Nearby" option. Last weekend, I told it I wanted directions to the nearest mall from my current GPS location.   • To be honest, I've never wanted to "surf the internet" on my mobile phone.

    I really couldn't give a crap.

    However, merely by virtue of HAVING decent internet support, it means I can now write a bunch of tiny simple web apps and do stuff remotely on servers from my phone.

    Which means a number of things I no longer need to pull out my laptop for, not to mention getting internet on the laptop.
