I just got funded by TPF. I think it works for me in a way, because now I know I have to finish in a finite amount of time. Otherwise I get distracted with other stuff. And the money at least will help me pay for some expenses like hosting, goint to YAPC, etc... So I don't think is that bad for all people.
Of couse, I just got the funding, so I'll let you know in a few months if it was really good for me. :)
