  • Russian is a great language to learn. I like the fact that it uses an unfamiliar alphabet but it's not so foreign that it is uncomfortable for an English (or most western languages) speaker. The spelling rules are very regular compared to English and the pronunciation is simple except for memorizing the emphasis syllable for each word. I took an intense military school course back in the 80's and it was great fun. The best way to get started correctly is with a native speaker in an academic environment for a quarter or two, then you should be able to progress nicely on your own. I'd love to learn Arabic or Persian someday. I love the script.
