Seems familiar... (Score:2)
To me, it happens if the CPU has been extremely busy for more than a few minutes. I believe that this may be a selfprotection mechanism, that kicks in when the CPU is getting too hot. Every time it did happen so far, there was hot air coming out of the ventilation grid holes.
Now I know a PC and an iBook are not related at all, but it could be something similar, no?
