    Thanks for the question. There actually is a corresponding gather - it's in the final multi-method in the program (which is actually the one we always invoke initially - the other variants are just "helpers" - if we were writing this as a module we'd probably call those something else and not export them).

    The thing to take note of is that we look at the dynamic scope when finding the gather handler. The multi-variant we call first calls out to the other candidates from within the gather block, and thus when they take it is the gather in there that collects the values.

    A truly gatherless take - without a gather block locatable to give the elements to - would be a warning and not do anything, and thus is probably useless. :-)
