I feel crazy for even trying to weigh in on this discussion, especially since very few will likely see my comments (and it's very late at night for me). I have mixed feelings on the matter of certification (I could go either way on so many arguments). But I am also rather old fashioned in my thinking (but not because I, myself, am so old). There is an extant system that merges reputation and skill qualification: the apprentice-journeyman-master ranking.
Could we somehow work this into mix? I'm certain that I would qualify as a journeyman myself, if only I could find a master of suitable breeding. Oh Captain! My Captain!
