I have been using it since TOAD costs $$$. I think it may be that I am used to seeing the TOAD interface.

  Indeed, but TOAD really is a good tool. TOAD has the advantage of working with MySQL and SQLServer, though. Hopefully, it will work with PostgreSQL someday as well. :)

Check out Aqua Data Studio as it connects to many different data sources including Postgres/MySQL and runs on Mac OS X, Linux, Win.

May be missing some of the more complex Oracle specific features but still a great app.
