I think you can substitute AJAX, C#, Python, Ruby, etc. for Perl in your article, and get the same net effect. I've noted a surprising rise in the "come work for us, cuz we're wayyyy kewl. Like free soda and pizza, dude!" recruitment ads. Oh, and the "come work for us cuz we're supergeniuses that are all going to be gazillionaires by end of the month!".
Idiot, arrogant, contract recruiters being dicks: where did I experience that before ? Oh yeah, nineteenninetysomething...
Couple that with the "Web 2.0" nonsense being pimped on TechCrunch [techcrunch.com] and VentureBeat [venturebeat.com], and Google throwing cash at anyone with a PHP website with rounded corners and aqua-lized buttons...yep, smells like 1999. Frothier than one of my homebrews.
