Connectivity at yapc

posted by pudge on 2000.06.13 11:33   Printer-friendly
So I am curious, as I am sure others are, about what connectivity we will have at yapc. I know there will be a terminal room, but what about the dorm rooms? Just modems again? Please tell me that CMU has campuswide 802.11. :-)

Update: 06/13 05:23 by P : Kevin Lenzo's given us some info about wirless access, noting also that Ethernet access has been turned off in the dorms for the summer. Read the comments for more info.

  • Kevin says that there is basically campuswide 802.11 access at CMU [cmu.edu]. To gain access to it, send your 802.11 card's hardware address (a six-byte hex address, usually looking like 0A 2B 3C 4D 5E 6F) to Kevin at lenzo+wavelan@cs.cmu.edu [mailto] no less than five days before the conference.

802.11 is basically WaveLAN [wavelan.com], and the supported card is the "silver", which is also the same card used by Apple's Airport [airport.com]. Please read all the information on CMU's wireless [cmu.edu] page.
