Onward to the 100th Perl conference!

While trying to produce this graph, I ended up gathering all the information I could find about Perl grassroots conferences (so this list doesn't contain any of the TPC/OSCON conferences, but on the other hand, it does contain several unconfirmed or canceled Perl conferences).

The raw YAML data will be hosted and maintained by the YAPC Europe Foundation, but you can email me directly with additions and updates.

Here are some statistics I computed from the list:

  The Scandinavian and Nordic Perl Workshops are the same - it just changed name after the first year.

    Of course. I'm not sure how to keep the information about the different names/original names, though. Maybe an "alias" key? That would allow me to keep French name for the French Perl Workshop.

  For the Act-hosted events, maybe you could add attendance data (registered vs. arrived) and talk data (number of talks, speakers, days, etc.)? Date distribution might be interesting too. The last two years, I think there have been Perl events every month somewhere in the world. Thanks for pulling this together.

    Yeah, date distribution is on my list of "cool stuff to graph". Eric has been joking for a while that there is no "conference season" anymore. I wanted to check this.

  I know this post is specifically NOT about TPC/OSCON but I was wondering just the other day about the history of The Perl Conference. I wasn't able to find much info by searching. For example, was it always in Portland?

    I don't have any links for you, but I can answer your specific question. TPC/OSCON wasn't always in Portland. For its first six years it wandered around California. The first two were in San Jose, the next two in Monterey and the next two in San Diego.
