I lurk on the Lucene mailing list, I would say a full comparison isn't possible yet (I pulled PLucene from CVS a few weeks back). But yes, possibly a bit less code than the actual Lucene Java implementation.
Lucene has a few more analysers, among other things. When I looked at it last, PLucene didn't have all the analysers and so on (could have changed, downloading the release now). As for speed, Lucene is scarily fast (500mb in 9 seconds, an unofficial benchmark for my data). I'd imagine IO is more a const

Followup: it seems complete. I see all the analysers I use in the Plucene distribution.. cool.
