back from OSCON

Yup, so it's fairly obvious that I've been neglecting this. Oh well. OSCON was actually fun this year. I met a handful of new people who turned out to be both intelligent AND fun. :o) Lots of creativity there this year, which was also cool. Gibson guitars, performance-art presentations, etc. We drove, BTW. The 16-hour drive wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, as Oregon has some of the most beautiful landscapes. Tragic that I couldn't find my Nikon battery charger before we left for home, as the camera died completely as we were leaving Portland.

so i like my job. i'm a template engineer, no, wait - they changed it again last week. hmm. i think it's a development engineer this week. yeah, that sounds right. basically, i do about four hours of work a week, pushing around html from holier-than-thou designers and copynpasting template toolkit. two hours of that is spent following up with confused project managers.
until about three weeks ago when they dumped five projects on me. yay.
i don't really care, but i'm a bit grumpy about it because i don't have oodles and oodles of time lately to blow futzing with perl. grr.

as my mother used to say. umm. does still say.
i think i can safely document my useless perl skills here.

today i learned how to (somewhat) effectively use DBI.
*watching everyone take a huge step back*
and hashes.
*sigh*
dear god, i feel like the new kid in the class wearing the wrong style of clothes.
