tinman spent a few years mucking around industry before going back to school for a Masters. Currently not enjoying the weather in North England..

He wrote Perl that looked suspiciously like C code in 1998, while working as an intern, and has been trying to cure that bad habit ever since.

A glimmering I see..

[ #6899 ]

Tis finally here.. a near two year wait is almost over, Robert Jordan has released another ebook prologue.. details here..

I'm sorta in two minds about this..you gotta pay a quarter of the price of the final copy (600+ pages, IIRC) for a hundred odd pages and an interview.. The series got sorta exciting in the last installment, but although I was pretty much a WoT fanatic a couple of years ago, now its kinda died down, and I'm in 'ho-hum, lets wait and see' mode :o)

To buy or to wait until November is the question..

In other news: I've already downloaded the Perl 5.8 package from sunfreeware.. waiting for a weekend to install it and try it out.. Although, honestly speaking, there are still a few machines that run 5.005_03 (installed by default, yikes!), and I haven't figured out which ones to upgrade yet.. (the chaos of a minimal config management organization).. Here's hoping Activestate can release a 5.8 version soon as well; so I can upgrade the install on my machine..

Trying to find some time to read "Wealth of nations" amidst marking exam papers *sigh*
