He wrote Perl that looked suspiciously like C code in 1998, while working as an intern, and has been trying to cure that bad habit ever since.

Why is Java so hard?. Favourable references to Perl too.
Can the people who wished EJB and other monstrosities on the masses kindly take note ? (fat chance, but I can dream). A quote from the bottom of this page seems pretty appropriate too.
