tinman spent a few years mucking around industry before going back to school for a Masters. Currently not enjoying the weather in North England..

He wrote Perl that looked suspiciously like C code in 1998, while working as an intern, and has been trying to cure that bad habit ever since.

Firefox .. getting repaired

[ #17321 ]

It took me most of the morning (and my supervisor isnt in, heh heh heh), but I've found workarounds for most of the problems I've encountered in Firefox. Will post links below..

If you want a zip file build for Win32, check Mozilla News. Source: this thread in Mozillazine.

Google searching from the addressbar: fix is here.

Just to also note that TBE (Tab Browser Extensions) are supposed to be bad mojo and will "overwrite core browser files". Installing it will definitely break Firefox. I've heard it suggested on the forums that a combination of Tab Browser Preferences and Session Saver (also two Firefox extensions) will duplicate some of the functionality, but texturizer.net appears to be slash+fox-dotted :)

If they don't want people installing TBE, I wonder how/when some of the features in that extension will be ported over to Firefox proper..Updates when I see them. I couldn't find anyone with a fix for the scrollbar bug (and I don't have that, so I am not sure what to look for)

update: Tab Browser Extensions have been updated, link to XPI is here, homepage of developer is here . A mirror of all firefox extensions can also be found here. ExtensionRoom in Mozdev is also supposed to be up.

YAU: Scrollbars disappearing are probably caused by an API change from 0.7 to 0.8 The developers recommend that you switch to the default theme. Thread is here

  • I got the scrollbars to work again... but simply stepping over to the default theme wasn't enough. I had to delete the old themes. It appears as if simply that their existence was noticable by the browser, was enough to throw it off.
    • Ah, that explains why they said "delete everything to do with the old profile, only migrate the following: cookies, sign-on, bookmarks, localstore.rdf ..."

      That is weird, though :(
