  The site has felt slow to me since the new discussion system appeared (and which I immediately disabled). For whatever reason, loading something off the images server is very, very slow.

    I already wrote about this in a journal entry, months ago. What use.perl.org is getting of the images server is 500k of Javascript: the Yahoo YUI library.
    
    You cannot convince me otherwise, I will always feel that using such a huge monolithic library is a bad idea.

      I don't personally have a problem with the large JS libraries. They should be getting cached and I like the new discussion system anyway.
      
      My problem is when use.perl.org times out and is unreachable.

        Everybody keeps saying that. Yet I do notice that my browser downloads them anew every few days.

  Timeouts left, right and center yesterday. Hasn't been that bad today though.

    But it's much, much worse today (1 day later). At worst, the site has even been unreachable for over 15 minutes.
    
    It's a really bad day when loading use.perl.org is much slower than loading Perlmonks... ;-)

  Too bad the site is made with a scripting language, otherwise it could handle more than a couple dozen users.
