I am the proverbial "accidental" programmer. I have found that I really like Perl and programming so I am pursuing that route now. I am the Debian systems administrator and junior Perl programmer for a company called Inspire.

A new job for me...

[ #32950 ]

I have thought (and prayed) and I am jumping the chasm to being a full fledged programmer. I will initially be tasked with cleaning up some email parsing stuff using Perl (of course). Then I will be doing XML stuff ala some web services and possibly some Java with ArcGIS.

I am pretty stoked as I really love programming and I look forward to the growth this will certainly cause.

I don't have to change companies (which is good) just projects.

Not to put a damper on your new position ... hope you leave on your own accord if/when that occassion comes.

    • Well I could have stayed where I was but the prime on the contract sucks and the potential for growth isn't really there.

The project I am going to is stable and has some nice things coming down the pipe for the future.

I am hoping that as I grow into this job that I will be able to maybe help out in different areas in the Perl world as well.
  • I hope it works out well for you.
