Only started with Perl4 and Perl5 in 1995. I was doing AWK etc for 12 years before that, and resisted switching. I've been doing OO since before C++ hit bigtime, with Objective-C and SmallTalk, so I really like the (no longer new) Perl5 OO style; and the Lispish Map style is also an old friend. What do I hack with Perl? All data that passes my way; systems monitoring scripts at $DayJob, weather data at night, and I cheat on NPR word puzzles. Member: [] [] /. LinkedIn []

Letter to Boston Globe - Dan Shaughnessy needs a clue

[ #22756 ]
Dan Shaughnessy needs a clue. He said today, on page 1 above the fold, "The north end zone lighthouse will be dark until the Patriots return this summer." Doesn't anyone fact-check this guy's hip-hype hyperbole?

The lighthouse will light up in April when the *other* New England football team returns, the one that plays with a round ball with their feet.

I realize the MLS SuperDraft may not be big news in the newsroom during NFL playoffs, but really, someone ought to be paying attention to the NE Revolution -- and indeed, the Globe's Frank Dell'Apa is. Great article, Frank, it's wonderful to know that our next defender was sitting in the stands with us 9 years ago. Maybe he can wear Mike Burn's old number?
