If not for the fact that loading Wx is an all or nothing proposition

There is a patch to change that in a wxPerl branch; it should work but needs some real-world testing. I think Steffen was waiting for the Padre changes above before testing it.

FYI, Alien::wxWidgets does not require GCC neither when using a pre-built wxWidgets nor when it builds wxWidgets itself (bugs happen, but that is a different story).

In case there are people interested, I have started a similar-yet-different project.

At the moment I am concentrating in writing a Perl parser in Perl (it can currently parse itself) and writing a .Net backend for it using DLR (there is nothing working yet, but I hope to have something soon).

in time I hope to have something like PyPy: a complete Perl runtime written in Perl and recompilable to any lower level platform (I am dreaming to support .Net, LLVM and Java).
